COVID-19 Services

During the COVID-19 pandemic, NIHHC led the way in responding to the unique health care needs of the Hispanic population in northern Indiana, which was disparately affected by the spread of the virus.

NIHHC served as an advisor to government agencies in Elkhart and Kosciusko counties to develop an emergency response plan to COVID-19. Since April 2020, NIHHC has carried out a robust response and continues to offer COVID-19 services that overcome systemic barriers that Hispanics face in accessing preventative and responsive health care services during the pandemic. Specifically regarding COVID-19, NIHHC has identified barriers related to employment, health insurance, housing, language, stigmatization, income, and underlying conditions. NIHHC delivers COVID-19 services that address these barriers. Its ongoing response is culturally informed, linguistically appropriate, and employs NIHHC’s bilingual staff, who are welcoming, as well as trained in COVID-19-related services.

{The ability to fight a pandemic requires everyone to be involved. NIHHC brought leadership to engage and solve needs for our Hispanic residents in Kosciusko County. We are very grateful for what NIHHC has done and continues to do to help our community in the ongoing battle with COVID-19.{

{NIHHC was an integral part of the COVID-19 response to the Latinx community. Without them, we would not have had the FAQs brochure in English and Spanish to distribute. We would not have provided the community with translation, interpretation, contact tracing and Spanish language call center services as efficiently without them.{

{NIHHC has been a valued resource throughout the pandemic, from answering phones to interpretation. Together we have been able to provide COVID-19 testing to our community.{
