4 th ANNUAL NIHHC FUTSAL TOURNAMENT CANCELED DUE TO COVID-19 SPIKE

Futsal Tournament
At the Northern Indiana Hispanic Health Coalition (NIHHC) and Magic Soccer Club, we believe that active families are healthier families! In support of this belief, we are joining forces to host the 4th Annual NIHHC Futsal Tournament. Futsal is an exciting, fast paced, small-sided soccer game played on a hard surface. The goal of this tournament is to encourage children, teens, and adults to stay active all year long—even during the winter months.
All proceeds will benefit NIHHC’s Healthy Hearts program and Magic Soccer Club’s player scholarship fund.
NIHHC’s Healthy Hearts program focuses on the reduction and prevention of childhood obesity. This program is offered in several elementary schools in Elkhart County. Since 2013 over 3,900 children from 4th through 6th grades have been impacted by the Healthy Hearts program. The program teaches children the benefits of making healthier food choices and engaging in physical activities at school and at home. NIHHC’s research team carefully measures changes in healthy habits, knowledge retention, health perception, and BMI. In fact, 6th graders that complete all three years of the program show a 27.1% increase in health knowledge. Regarding habits, those students demonstrate a 23% and 32% decrease in eating candy and drinking soda,
respectively. As one researcher observed, students in the Healthy Hearts program become stewards of good health at home.
The Magic Soccer Club player scholarship fund allows all children access to a quality year-round soccer program.
This year’s tournament will be held at the Elkhart Sports Center from Friday, November 13th to Sunday, November 15th.
